The Phantom Fart At Federation
Federation / photos: Michael Ng
Fashion shows almost always start late. It’s not unusual to have to wait up to an hour or more after the expected start time so you get used to standing around before you get to your seat. Federation’s show was in Shed 1 on Friday. While most ticket holders were queuing [...]
Welcome To Nowhere / bye from Zara
Stolen Girlfriend’s Club / photo: Michael Ng
Strong show last night by Stolen Girlfriends Club with their collection, Welcome To Nowhere. The labels 10th collection celebrates nomads, gypsies and vagabonds from around the globe. Drawing inspiration from a variety of cultures and countries, the collection is a mish mash of ideas resulting in a nomadic biker gang of sherpa [...]
Pamela / Isaac / GHD New Generation / Fashion Week
Afternoon at Fashion Week yesterday was all about Pamela Anderson. I was lurking about it in the MAC/GHD VIP room when one of the make-up girls helpfully whispered, ‘Don’t leave. Pam is arriving in 5 minutes. Don’t tell anyone… ssshhh…’ Sure enough, five minutes later in walked Pam in a tight pink number that barely [...]
Kate Sylvester X Judith Baragwanath
Kate Sylvester / photo: Michael Ng
Kate Sylvester showed her Diamond Dogs collection last night. Showcased by models in black lipstick, the collection was inspired by notorious Auckland socialite Judith Baragwanath and her ability to move seamlessly between Auckland’s exclusive social scene and the punk/art world. Baragwanath always made an entrance with the way she dressed, [...]
Paul Serville @ Fashion Week
I spent some time chatting with Paul Serville (above), owner of Servilles hairdressing as he oversaw a big team of hairstylists for this morning’s Designer Selection Show. Open to the public, this show highlighted outfits from all the label’s showing at fashion week. Zambesi’s Marissa Findlay did a great job producing the show, and Servilles [...]
Frank Gehry Typography Design
Who is your favourite living architect? As for me, it’s hard to pick anyone over Zaha Hadid or Daniel Libeskind, but Frank Gehry would be up there. I saw this the other day and had to post it. Super cool typography design based on the architecture of Frank Gehry by graphic designer Chris Labrooy. Chris says, “I [...]

Following the current of his visual imagination [...]
Fashion Week begins…
So Fashion Week is in full swing for 2010. And there is a really nice, relaxed vibe around the tents this year. A little less stress, a little more fun. A good thing. After last night’s opening party, Lonely Hearts kicked the week off with an off-site showing of a short film shot last week in [...]
NOM*d S/S 2010 Finding Cheerfulness
Leonard Cohen knows it, though it took him a lot of songs and a few prescription meds to work it out. And this summer NOM*d know it too. Fed up with the current vogue for doom and gloom, they’re resolute in their pursuit of sunshine and Finding Cheerfulness is the result. Don’t worry be happy [...]

Michael Jackson This Is It movie trailer
Here’s the trailer for the fast approaching Michael Jackson film, This Is It. Choreographer Kenny Ortega, who worked with Jackson throughout his career, directed This Is It and says the documentary is “raw, emotional, moving and powerful. Fans will see Michael as they have never seen him before, as a great artist at work,” says Ortega.
This Is It releases [...]
Hedi Slimane goes back to the 80s
Love this new story featuring Paolo Anchisi styled by Nicole Formichetti and shot by Hedi Slimane for Vogue Hommes Japan issue #3. It perfectly captures the mid-80s suburban teenage boy vibe, right down to the Ferrari F-40 poster. Arguably the featured Ferrari should be the Testarossa but no quibbles really, the F-40 works wonderfully here…

‘I’m as mad as hell, and I’m not going to take this anymore!’
450 words individually synced and animated to the famous monologue from the 1976 movie Network. Network is a satirical film about a television network and its struggle to overcome poor ratings. Paddy Chayefsky’s Oscar-winning script about the pursuit of ratings at the cost of cultural integrity is a showcase for powerhouse acting by Peter Finch, Faye [...]
The Making of Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Cover
Here is a very cool timelapse of the making of the cover for Jay-Z’s new album The Blueprint 3. Very interesting to see photographer Dan Tobin Smith’s process.
There is a also nice little interview with Dan Tobin Smith over at itsnicethat.com about shooting the cover.
Design In Crisis / Exhibition
From the exhibitors /
“We live in interesting times. This is a time for creative problem solving like no other. We have to find new models for how we do things, and fast. As creative commentators we believe we have a responsibility to talk about this. To show a link between design thinkers and makers. We [...]
