“And Now,” cried Max, “Let The Wild Rumpus Start!”

One of the most exciting upcoming films this year is the Spike Jonze adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s classic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are.

In the new issue of Pilot we have an exclusive interview with Spike Jonze by Film writer Drew McWeeny. Drew talks to director Spike Jonze about the challenges of working with men in suits, the pressures in bringing an iconic piece of the shared childhood collective consciousness to the screen, the complex imaginations of children and the abandonment of the wild rumpus…

You may have heard about some of the difficulties surrounding the project. The film was shot in 2006 and set for a 2008 release, and then… well, it didn’t happen. There were rumours online and elsewhere about the behind the scenes creative struggles on the film. We heard that Warner Brothers were not happy, that it was a more complex, subversive and darker film than they wanted. There were rumours of a reshoot. Some speculated that Spike was to be fired from the project, others that he would walk. Drew’s interview with Spike covers all of these rumours and much more. It’s a fantastic interview, Drew and spike cover a lot of ground and after reading the interview you’ll be gagging to see the film, that is a promise!

If you haven’t seen the trailer, it’s a doozy and you really should, it’s a great watch, see it here…

Thank god for the interview in Pilot – this is the WTWTA fix I’ve been waiting for! Been hanging out for the film for years now. Now I think I’ll be alright until the film gets released. Thank you!
